The Weekly Update #22
January 10, 2024
Note from Mrs. Haworth
Good afternoon,
I hope you all stay warm this weekend and next week. Please know that on days where it is very cold outside, we try to let the students in the building once staff arrive so the students are not having to stay outside in bad weather. We will definitely do this on Tuesday morning when the temperature is supposed be 19 degrees!
There have been some updates to the course selection timeline from the district, so please make sure to read the Counselor's Corner section below.
Have a great evening,
Tara Haworth

Renaissance Star Reading Screener (Middle of the Year)
Dear Parents,
This week your student will participate in the Renaissance Star Reading screener. This assessment is computer-adaptive and created to assist teachers to quickly identify areas of strengths and growth for students in reading. With this tool, teachers will be able to more specifically target their instruction to ensure student growth for each individual student.
This assessment will not be taken for a grade as it is strictly a tool to provide teachers with data to inform instruction. The screener will take the students approximately 20-30 minutes to complete.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Rebecca Barrett, RLA Instructional Coach (rebeccabarrett@katyisd.org).
Thank you!

2024 – 2025 TJH Course Selection Important Information
Katy ISD has made some changes to our course selection timeline, please see the updates below.
On January 24th current 6th, 7th and 8th grade students will get information regarding course selection for the next school year during HomeBase. Students will receive a planning sheet with a list of courses, a handout with a TinyURL to submit applications, and access to how-to guides for SchooLinks.
The window for course selection opens on February 5th through February 19th . Students will use SchooLinks to input their course selections and alternate elective choices.
Tays’s counselors will meet individually with each student to review their course choices between February 12th – March 8th during the student’s RLA class.
Counselors will host a parent chat for our current 6th and 7th-grade parents (see flyer). During the chat, counselors will present information about course selection and answer any questions you may have. To register for the course selection chat, please fill out the TinyURL - http://tinyurl.com/TJHPC2024
